1. REPEAT BY BRISK READING
This saves times and gives time to reaffirm your past days’ learning.
As exam days come closer slot time to repeat your revision by scanning and skimming through the subject that you will write first. Smile at what you tend to remember and mark the pages where you think you need to study.
2. CHECK WHAT YOU DONT KNOW
Where you lost marks from is from what small mistakes you did. It’s wise to check what mistakes you make and from which parts of the test questions. It could be a topic, a diagram, a concept definition, a spelling, a formula, a grammar and even a handwriting. Locate your weakness from your own past answerscripts and from answerscripts of other friends too.
3. NIMBLE YOUR FINGERS
Often children study by reading. They even read mathematics. If you fail to write and study as you revise, you fail to train your brain to command fingers to write. As you study, keep jotting things you study, draw the diagram you are looking at, solve what was solved, rewrite definition by scribbling words from it, make your note into a cobweb of writings. This way you train your fingers and cement your memory to retain longer what your saw.
4. TEST WITH A FRIEND
If you want to test how well and how much you know, play a game of question and answer through a verbal interview and written questions. This will help you in three ways; to know what you need to relearn, get help to find answers to your doubts and build confidence to sit the bigger test. This can be done in pairs or threes, during recess of your study hour.
5. DO NOTHING BUT BREATHE
One of the secret to improving inner confidence and mental capacity during study for examination is taking mindful breaks. It’s like a brief rest on your way up to a temple.
Research has shown that practicing mindfulness reduces wandering thoughts, increases working memory capacity, and improves exam scores. Taking attentive breaths, a deeper and longer breath, helps tune out distractions and improve your memory and attentiveness. This will help to cope with stress and reduce your levels of anxiety and boost the immune system’s ability to fight off illness.
Change the way you study and way you score will change too.
