2nd week

08.03.2023

As a mentee, I found the group mentoring session on introducing each other to be a valuable experience. Initially, I was hesitant, uncertain of what to expect in introduction session. However, the mentor did an excellent job of creating a welcoming atmosphere, which made it easier for me and the other mentees to share our thoughts.

Through the introduction session, I discovered that the group of mentees came from different backgrounds, occupations, and interests. I appreciate the diversity as it allows for different perspectives and insights that I may have not considered before. Although we were all unique, we shared a common goal to grow and become better individuals.

Moreover, I was impressed by how supportive the mentor was throughout the session. He actively engaged with each of us, encouraging us to share our experiences and ask questions. It was evident that our mentor was committed to our growth and well-being, which made me feel valued as a mentee.

Overall, the introduction session was an enlightening experience, and I am looking forward to getting to know my fellow mentees and engaging in more group discussions. I am grateful for the mentor and the opportunity to be a part of such a supportive community.

3rd week

22.03.2023

For this week we spent a mentoring session on planning activities for the upcoming session which proved to be an enriching experience. It was a unique opportunity for us, the mentees, to take charge of our learning and collaborate on developing activities that would foster growth and learning.

Initially, the idea of planning the activities for our next mentoring session without the guidance of our mentor made me apprehensive. However, with a shared commitment to make the session productive, we brainstormed and developed a list of activities that catered to our learning needs.

Working together on the list of activities was an exciting and engaging experience. We all had different ideas, suggestions, and perspectives, but with open communication, we were able to narrow down and finalize what we wanted to do during the upcoming session.

I appreciated how everyone willingly contributed. The process was empowering and allowed us to take ownership and responsibility for our growth. It was evident that we all wanted to maximize the time and opportunity despite our mentor being out of station.

Furthermore, I am confident that our planned activities will help us to achieve our mentoring goals. We approached the planning session with a collective vision, and with a shared commitment, I have no doubt that we will execute the plan successfully.

Overall, I believe that planning activities for our upcoming session enhanced our collaboration and communication skills while preparing us for future leadership opportunities. I am grateful for the mentor and the opportunity to learn and grow alongside my fellow mentees.

4th week

29.03.2023

As a mentee, missing the mentoring session due to being sick was regrettable. However, during my time away, I used the opportunity to work on one of my passions, which is editing YouTube videos. Editing my videos is an interest that I am passionate about, and it gives me an avenue to be creative and authentic.

I devoted my time to perfecting the different elements of my editing techniques, which include sound effects, color grading, and transitions, among others. It was a refreshing experience to immerse myself in my passion and work on video editing techniques that I would not have had the chance to learn if not for my interest.

Furthermore, my passion for video editing has taught me that a great video is not only about aesthetics but also tells a story and entertains its audience. Additionally, to become a successful video editor, I have to keep up with the latest trends and updates in the video editing software and social media platforms.

Speaking of social media platforms, I am an active user. It is the world's largest database and a hub of creativity, and it has given me a platform to share my work and ideas while connecting me with a broad range of people. Through my YouTube Channel, I have been able to engage and communicate with my audience virtually, providing me with the means to gain experience in digital marketing and social media management.

Being a mentee has taught me to own my path and seek knowledge and growth in everything I do. While I regret missing the mentoring session, it gave me the opportunity to focus on one of my passions, editing YouTube videos, and reminded me of the importance of pursuing my interests, even when life gets in the way.

5th week

05.04.2023

During the mentoring session where my mentor, mentee friends and I enjoyed a cup of tea and some snacks in the college canteen, I realized that it is important to take some time for ourselves once in a while. We often forget to take care of ourselves as we were overdosed on assignments and research . This mentor Mentee session reminded me of the importance of self-reflection and the need to take a step back and relax.

As we sipped on our tea and munched some snacks, I noticed my Mentor and mentee friends feeling more comfortable and open to conversation. We share our hobbies and interests, which helped me understand more about my friends personality, goals, and aspirations. Likewise, I decided to share some of my experiences and interests with my Mentor and friends. I realized that sharing personal stories from my mentor helped me establish a good rapport, making it easier for us to communicate and connect.

The session made me better understand the importance of taking time out for ourselves. Amidst our busy schedules and work commitments, it's easy to overlook self-reflection and relaxation. But, it is important to slow down, enjoy a cup of tea, and reflect on our lives once in a while. Self-reflection helps us gain a better understanding of ourselves, our goals, and aspirations, which can help us make better decisions in the future.

In conclusion, the mentoring session where my mentor, Mentee friends and I enjoyed a cup of tea and some snacks not only helped me understand my friends better, but also encouraged me to take time out for myself. It reminded me of the importance of self-reflection and relaxation, and how it can be beneficial for our mental and emotional wellbeing.

As a mentee, the mentoring session on exploring and learning different ICT tools to debate online from our mentor was an eye-opening experience. I have always been interested in technology and how it can be used to bring people closer together, and this mentoring session allowed me to gain an in-depth knowledge of the different ICT tools that can be used to host and participate in debates online.

The session has helped me develop a strong understanding of the different ICT tools that can be used to engage with people from across the world. It has also made me more confident in my ability to present my ideas online in a well-structured, concise and persuasive manner.

In conclusion, the mentoring session on exploring and learning different ICT tools to debate online has been an incredibly enriching experience for me as a mentee. It has allowed me to gain an in-depth understanding of online debating and has provided me with the skills and confidence to take part in such activities in the future. I am incredibly grateful to our mentor for providing us with such a valuable learning experience.

7th week

19.04.2023

Being a mentee in a group mentoring session is extremely fulfilling as it allows me to connect with my mentor and fellow mentees. This week, I had the opportunity to organize four games that we played as a group during our session, which included hot seat, human knot, and truth or dare. It was a refreshing end to a heavy day and allowed us to engage in a fun activity that also fostered teamwork and creativity.

The hot seat game was an exciting game that allowed us to learn more about each other and build stronger connections within the group. It involved one person sitting in the "hot seat" while the other group members asked them questions about themselves. It was a fun and interactive way of learning more about each other and building stronger relationships in the group.

We also played the human knot game, which tested our listening skills and ability to work together as a team. This game challenged us to unravel a twisted chain of people without breaking the chain, and it was a great exercise that allowed us to work together and learn more about communication and teamwork.

Another game that we played was truth or dare, which was a fun and lighthearted game that allowed us to engage in some friendly competition while also learning more about each other's personalities and interests.

Overall, the games I organized during our group mentoring session were a great way to break the monotony of the day and gave us an opportunity to connect and engage with each other in a fun and interactive way. As a mentee, I believe that these kinds of activities are vital to building stronger relationships with my fellow mentees and will help us learn more from each other and our mentors as we continue to grow together as a group.

I had a great experience in our recent mentoring session. One of the most notable moments was when we gave our mentor the floor to speak, and he shared some insightful stories about his experiences. He told us about a stranger he met who was excellent in communication skills. This stranger became a wonderful friend after working together for a while. It was inspiring to hear how this person's positivity and communication skills impacted the mentor's life, and I learned a lot from this story.

Another highlight of the session was when we played riddle games. We worked together as a team to solve them, and it was a fun and engaging way to bond with each other. It was great to see how different perspectives and ideas came together to solve the riddles.

Overall, I am grateful for the opportunity to be a part of this mentoring group. I feel that it's a supportive and empowering environment where we can learn from each other and grow together.

I am excited about the upcoming sessions and can't wait to see what else we have in store.

9th week

03.05.2023

During this week we spent discussing on the impact of technology and social media on Generation Z's mental health, I had the privilege of participating in a mentor-mentee session as usual. As a mentee, I enjoyed the opportunity to have a safe space where I could express my opinions and concerns about the topic while learning from my mentor's experience and insights. And also it was so much relevant to what I am studying in class.

What I appreciated most about this session was the level of engagement and commitment from my mentor. He was genuinely interested in our perspective and created an atmosphere of mutual respect, which made it easy for us to share our thoughts and feedback. Through our discussions for one hour, I learned about the positive and negative effects of social media and technology on mental health, as well as practical ways to mitigate the risks associated with social media use.

Additionally, my mentor and Mentee friends shared tips on how to stay mentally healthy while using social media, such as setting boundaries, filtering content, and engaging in offline activities. They also emphasized the importance of connecting with loved ones and building a support network, which I found to be particularly relevant in today's fast paced and digitally dominated world.

Overall, this mentor-mentee session taught me the value of seeking guidance and mentorship from experienced individuals in areas that I may need help or advice. It also reminded me of the crucial role that human connection and engagement plays in maintaining mental health in our technology driven society.

10th week

10.05.2023

As a Mentee, I was initially disheartened to  that our mentor is absent in today's session. However, I was pleasantly surprised to find that the session was still spent well through the reflection exercises that we engaged in.

During our session, we were given the opportunity to reflect back on our experience as Mentees throughout the semester. This reflection exercise proved to be incredibly valuable in helping me to process everything that I had learned and experienced. I was able to identify my successes, my areas of growth, and my goals for the future.

One thing that particularly stood out to me was the importance of setting realistic goals and celebrating small wins along the way. Throughout the semester, I had set ambitious goals for myself, but often felt discouraged when I didn't achieve them as quickly as I would have liked. Through reflection, I realized that setting smaller, more attainable goals was key in maintaining motivation and momentum.

Additionally, I was reminded of the importance of self-care and taking breaks to avoid burnout. As a student, I often feel pressure to constantly be productive and to prioritize my academic responsibilities over my personal wellness. However, our reflection exercise allowed me to recognize the need for balance between productivity and self-care.

Overall, I am grateful for the opportunity to have engaged in this reflection exercise and for the growth and learning that I have experienced throughout the semester as a Mentee. While it would have been great to have a final session with our mentor, this reflection exercise allowed me to end the semester on a positive note and with a clear sense of purpose moving forward.

Conclusion

As a mentee, I found the mentor-mentee sessions to be incredibly valuable and rewarding. Working with my mentor and Mentee friends has helped me grow both personally and professionally, and I am grateful for all the support and guidance they have provided me throughout our sessions.

As I approach the end of my college journey, I can't help but feel incredibly grateful for the support and guidance I have received from both my mentor and mentee friends. Your support and advice to me along the way have been instrumental in helping me achieve my goals and succeed in my studies.

As I prepare to graduate and begin the next chapter of my life, I would like to express my heartfelt thanks to my Mentor and every one of you. Your kindness, patience, and wisdom have made a lasting impact on my life, and I will always remember the time we spent learning and growing together.

While I may be leaving college soon, I hope that we can stay in touch and continue to support each other in our future endeavors. Whether it's through occasional catch-ups, social media, or other means, I know that our friendship and bond will endure beyond the walls of our alma mater.

Once again, thank you for everything. I am deeply grateful for your friendship and support, and I look forward to staying in touch with all of you in the years to come.

Thank You!

Your's Mentee,

Tshering Zangmo

My first Interview experience at BKF

Today I had my first interview at Bhutan Kidney Foundation for the post of enumerator for one month. I was excited about the opportunity, but also nervous about the interview process. When I arrived, I realized that there were 17 other interviewees, which added to my anxiety. As the interview began, I found myself struggling to express my thoughts into words. I felt like I wasn't able to convey my skills and experience as effectively as I would have liked. Despite my nerves, I tried my best to answer each question to the best of my ability. After the interview, I couldn't help but feel a little disappointed in myself. I felt like I could have done better, and that my nerves got the best of me. However, I reminded myself that this was just one interview, and that there are many other opportunities out there. Looking back, I realize that I may have been too hard on myself. It's completely normal to feel nervous during an interview, especially when there are many other candida...

Social workers 🌿

This poem is composed after I return to this college from rural field practicum in 2021.   hope you will enjoy reading!                          A beacon of hope   Amidst the mountains high and grand, Lies a land of peace and serenity, But in its valleys deep and wide, The pain and suffering are plenty. I see the people of Bhutan, Living simple lives with contentment, Yet struggling to access basic needs, Denied by underdevelopment. As I step onto my social work course, My heart swells with determination, To help these kind souls rise and shine, To give them a voice and representation. I plan to work with communities, Listening and learning from their stories, Empowering them with skills and knowledge, To overcome their struggles and worries. I want to help create a world, Where every person has equal chance, To lead a life full of dignity, And live in peace and harmony dance. Though the journey is long and ...

The study on the situation of violence against women in Bhutan by NCWC provides insightful information on the state of women's safety in the country. However we could find different viewpoints on the study's findings. On the negative side, the study reveals alarming rates of intimate partner violence and sexual violence against women in Bhutan. For instance, out of the 1,000 women surveyed, nearly 63% reported experiencing at least one form of physical or sexual violence by their partners. Such findings suggest that the government and relevant stakeholders need to take urgent action to address the issue. Failure to do so perpetuates a culture of violence against women and makes it difficult for women to speak out against the abuse.  On the positive side, the study sheds light on the extent of violence against women and provides a much-needed platform for advocacy. The National Commission for Women and Children (NCWC) has taken proactive measures to address the issue, such as ...
