"Legendary King Gesar was in fact a real person. Some people think of him as a famous warrior-king or general. Others consider him to be a powerful terton and a mahasiddha. But in reality, King Gesar was Guru Rinpoche himself appearing in the form of a warrior-deity called drala.

Gesar was born between tenth and eleventh century in Eastern Tibet. He was a son of the king of Ling. As a boy, he was very mischievous, but divine by nature and full of supernatural powers.

His greatest enemy was his uncle - a cowardly, vain and pretentious man who hoped to rule the country. Because of his uncle's jealousy, Gesar was banished and had to live in exile. He lived in wilderness, clothed in animal skins and a hat with antelope horns.

When Gesar was thirteen, a horse race was held to determine who will become the king of Ling and marry the beautiful daughter of a neighboring chieftain. Gesar decided to use this opportunity to reclaim power. He obtained a mystical horse from the wild mountains of the north and easily won the race.

He then married chieftain's daughter and ascended the golden throne.

Gesar's main mission on earth was to defeat his people's enemies and to propagate and preserve the Dharma. His wars were not expressions of anger, greed or confusion but served the needs of beings and the principle of truth.

King Gesar's first major campaign as a king was against the man-eating demon of the north. After defeating the demon, Gesar was put under a spell by the demon's wife, and lost his memory for six years. While he was away, his beautiful wife was kidnapped by the king of Hor kingdom. Gesar's memory eventually returned. Then, using his magical powers, Gesar entered the king of Hor's palace, killed him, and retrieved his wife.

Gesar raised an army of hundreds of thousands of warrior men and women under his command. He became famous in all Asia.

His forces won eighteen major wars and countless minor battles. It is believed that these wars brought long-lasting peace and Dharma to the lives of many.

King Gesar was not only a defender of Dharma, but also a great practitioner. Since childhood, he was constantly receiving teachings and prophecies directly from Guru Rinpoche and Dakinis in pure visions. He meditated in solitude for years and taught Dharma to a vast number of disciples.

His teachings are contained in so-called Drung texts. Many of the Drung could be categorized as Mind Termas. Among their discoverers were great adepts such as Do Khyentse.

At the age of eighty eight, King Gesar summoned his beloved commander and subjects to the main palace in Ma valley. After giving them teachings, he declared that the time of his departure had finally arrived. Then he dissolved into the Rainbow Body, leaving no remains behind.

It is prophecied that in the future Gesar will be reborn again as Rudrachakrin, the King of Shambhala. Rudrachakrin will raise a mystical army to conquer the dark forces and inaugurate the dawn of a new golden age on earth. It is also said, that whoever received 'The Kalachakra Initiation' will be reborn as a soldier of this mystical army."

The study on the situation of violence against women in Bhutan by NCWC provides insightful information on the state of women's safety in the country. However we could find different viewpoints on the study's findings. On the negative side, the study reveals alarming rates of intimate partner violence and sexual violence against women in Bhutan. For instance, out of the 1,000 women surveyed, nearly 63% reported experiencing at least one form of physical or sexual violence by their partners. Such findings suggest that the government and relevant stakeholders need to take urgent action to address the issue. Failure to do so perpetuates a culture of violence against women and makes it difficult for women to speak out against the abuse.  On the positive side, the study sheds light on the extent of violence against women and provides a much-needed platform for advocacy. The National Commission for Women and Children (NCWC) has taken proactive measures to address the issue, such as ...
